Description
Generally
The Yucca Rostrata originates in the deserts of Northern Mexico and West Texas where at night the temperatures can fall far below freezing. This is also the reason why this palm is so particularly suitable for the Northern European climate. The Yucca Rostrata is a straight -growing palm that has a very characteristic trunk due to the old, hanging brown leaf. The crown is formed by hundreds of narrow, gray leaves. This crown becomes more and more wider over time and, even in the wild, forms a perfect round ball. The Yucca rostrata can reach the wild up to 5 meters high and gets branches with multiple bulbs, as the plant gets older. The Yucca Rostrata is also called the palm lily in the Netherlands, which refers to the long large flower clusters that this palm can make in the spring. All in all, this palm is a unique piece of jewelry for every garden.
Seasonal product?
The Yucca Rostrata is available all year round, but our stock is very limited every year, so be on time.
Care
Like all other Yucca species, the Yucca Rostrata has a particularly small root system. These palms are even often imported without soil and root ball. We only import rostrata with full -fledged root ball and well -grown. Pay attention to the root ball when repotting, because it can easily break where many roots are lost. The Yucca rostata can be kept very well in the open ground. First make sure that there is at least up to 80 cm deep room for carrots. Remove any impenetrable layers for the Yucca is first put in the garden. A good drainage is very important to prevent the trunk from rotting at the bottom. This palm sets no specific requirements on the soil type and can even be placed in sandy soil. A place in full sun is ideal. Give moderate water in the spring and summer.
Winter
The Yucca rostrata can survive with a dry winter to -18 ° C. It is important that the crown of this palm is protected at low temperatures in winter. You can easily do this with a thermo protection cover. It also helps to heat the trunk with a light hose or heating hose. If the palm stays in a pot, it must also be completely packed with a pot protection cover. Ventilate the wintering room well so that the palm does not increase mold.
