Product Details
Description
Washingtonia Robusta originates in the south of the United States and Mexico. The Washingtonia is also called the Mexican fan palm. This palm owes its name to the first president of the United States, George Washington. The Washingtonia Robusta is a fast grower and can reach up to 15 meters high. The leaves of this fan palm are particularly large and can become a meter in diameter. In the wild, the Washingtonia grows mainly along streams and lakes and is widely used in the United States as avenue trees along large roads. The best example of this is the long lines of huge palms in Palm Springs, California. His natural location already indicates that this palm is a true water lover.
Seasonal product?
The Washingtonia Robusta is available all year round.
Care
The Washingtonia Robusta needs a sunny location, even full sun, and very well drained soil. Like many tropical plants, the Washingtonia Robusta makes a huge root system to provide for food and water. If the pot is too small, the palm will become yellowish and die slowly. Water water every day during a dry spring and/or hot, dry summers. Make sure that the palm is always in good water -reducing soil and that excess water can be directly out of the pot. Do not immediately put the palm in full sun after purchasing. Fertilize the Palm once a year with our concentrated plant feeding. The Washingtonia can best be kept in a large spacious pot because of its low frost tolerance. When the Washingtonia is kept in a pot, it can easily be put in a wintering room. Just like with every palm, the oldest, brown leaf should be cut as close as possible to the trunk. Brown points can be cut. This has no further effect on the palm
Do you want more information about the care, placement and wintering of your palm or tree? Feel free to come by on Saturday between 12:00 and 16:00 in our nursery in Bleiswijk and we are happy to help you further.
In the winter
The Washingtonia Robusta is hardy to a maximum of -5 ° C. That is why it is important to always put this palm in a large tub so that it can be put away sheltered in the winter. Note that the Washingtonia also needs enough light and water in the winter. If the palm stays in a pot, it must also be completely packed with a pot protection cover. Make sure that the wintering space is properly ventilated so that the palm does not get fungus.
